Beautiful lawns need care. My tips are based on many years of experience in professional golf course maintenance. Proper watering, mowing routines and fertilization play a very important role, and the lawn should also be aerated and scarified from time to time. When there is no longer any risk of frost in spring, lawn care can begin. Lawns need intensive care, especially after winter - spring is the ideal time for scarifying, aerating, fertilizing and reseeding. Lawns that have been stressed by cold and snow are often compacted and need air to breathe - spring is therefore a particularly important time of year for lawn care.
Mowing the lawn in spring
When the grass blades have reached a height of around 7 cm, the lawn can be mown. The perfect time for this is usually from the growing season in March. When cutting for the first time, it is important that the grass is not cut too short. The lawn should also be free of branches and leaves. The grass should not be cut shorter than 4-5 cm - this prevents the lawn from drying out or brown patches. Cutting it too short can also damage the roots - this is usually an opportunity for weeds to take hold. The mown blades should be removed after mowing so that the grass underneath is not deprived of light. Mowing is done all year round.
Scarifying or aerating the lawn

If there is moss and lichen growing into the lawn, the area should be scarified. This involves making a 2 mm deep scarification in the soil and working out the thatch. Depending on the size of the lawn, this can be done with a scarifier or scarifying rake. Scarification serves to aerate and loosen the soil - but under no circumstances should you scarify too much, as this can damage the roots and the turf.

While many people are familiar with scarification, few know about aeration, even though it is just as important for a perfect start to the new season for the lawn. Aeration involves using hollow tines to pierce the soil at a distance of a few centimeters and pulling out "plugs". These plugs are then removed and the entire area is covered with quartz sand (0.5 - 1.5 mm) at a rate of around 5 liters per square meter. The holes that are created are filled and the soil structure is improved.

In order to optimally aerate the soil, I use this roller before sanding and promote the growth of the lawn in the long term. The precisely arranged spikes enable effective, yet gentle soil aeration. This promotes an increased oxygen content in the soil and thus promotes plant growth.

The dough of our pinsa, made from a special mixture of rice, soy and wheat flour, rests for over 72 hours so that it becomes perfectly airy and delicious. When baked, the pinsa gets a fine, crispy crust that encloses an airy interior.
